MY FITNESS JOURNEY: GETTING ON TRACK AFTER AN OFF WEEK // DAYS 52 & 53 (WEEKEND EDITION)




When you've gotten off track on your fitness journey, how the hell are you supposed to start over?


Ok so in my last post I talked about how I fell off my fitness journey last week, starting a new job and just feeling wiped completely out.


This week I'm starting again (slowly, still recovering from feeling sick) and I feel like a duck out of water.


Like, what do I do now?


How do I start?


I really think it has to do with just putting one foot after the other and doing the best I can.


I know it's not going to be perfect.


I know I'm going to keep cocking it up from time to time.


But I also know I'll find my rhythm again.


Honestly the best advice I can give myself (and you) is to start how you started in the first place


Gradually, gently.


One right step in front of the other.


  1. Drink your water

  2. Get as much good quality sleep as you can

  3. Stay active throughout the day

  4. Eat as many veggies as possible

  5. Find 20-30 minutes to sweat, strengthen or stretch - you don’t have to go all out if you don’t feel like it, this is about building the habit while you get your groove back.


And let the rest evolve as you find your feet.

This post it’s time for the Weekend Edition of my log.



On weekends past I’ve blogged about how I go a bit haywire with my nutrition, and it’s something I’m working on.


And it’s not necessarily that I eat garbage, or go over my calorie deficit (though sometimes both of these things can be true), but usually I don’t eat much or I skip meals and then overeat later.


So this weekend I tried to eat three meals a day.


Listen, it was kind of tricky to pull off because honestly I was still sick with this head cold and just didn’t feel much like eating. But I’m improving.


I think it will get even easier once I get in the habit of meal prepping or find a way to make healthy eating more effortless.


Saturday’s Nutrition


Breakfast


I almost never have breakfast on Saturday mornings, but this day I treated myself and I’m so glad I did!


I made myself some oatmeal raspberry pancakes and listen: they are super easy, super nutritious, and so delicious too.


Here’s how to make them:


  • ½ cup rolled oats

  • ½ cup milk of choice (I used skim milk)

  • 1 large egg

  • ⅛ tsp baking powder

  • ½ cup frozen raspberries


Chuck everything in the blender and whazz until it forms a smooth batter.


Meanwhile, preheat a frypan over medium-high heat. Pour batter in small batches (about ¼ to ½ cup) at a time, cooking on one side until bubbles appear and then flip and cook a few seconds on the other side, then transfer to a plate.


Repeat with remaining batter. Drizzle with sugar free maple syrup, some more raspberries and/or Greek yoghurt if you so desire, and serve.


Lunch


Here on the Gold Coast we are getting DRENCHED with rain at the moment. I mean, it is really coming down.


Which is great if you’re sick and you just want to chill on the couch and watch movies all weekend (which I totally did).


This is, of course, my very protracted way of saying that it was totally toastie weather.



I made myself a turkey, cheese and mayo toastie on multigrain and it was heavenly.


Dinner


So the night before it was Pizza Friyay (if you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know this is pretty much a constant) and so, of course, tonight was leftovers.


It’s kind of a big deal that there are enough leftovers for another night of pizza because in days gone by I would just eat an entire Domino’s pizza to myself.



I would stuff myself absolutely sickly full because I was having a “cheat” meal and had this rule that I’d have to be perfect tomorrow.


Looking back I know it’s just pizza, I don’t eat massive amounts but it’s okay if I eat it two nights in a row. The world’s not going to cave in. I’m not going to undo everything.


I don’t have to eat past the point of enjoyment and fullness to enjoy pizza. I’m not trying to “make the most of it” because I’ve limited myself to only enjoying it once a week.


No more rules. I can have pizza any time I like, and it’s okay to enjoy it.


Dessert


So at the moment I’m trying to watch all the superhero movies in chronological order (from all the CUs - MCU, DCCU, XCU) (which the problematic X-Men timeline is making very difficult).


I was up to X-Men: Days of Future Past this night, and movie snacks were in order. I had big plans for an epic dessert but ended up satisfied from a little bag of Cob’s Lightly Sweet & Salted Popcorn, which I grazed on throughout the movie.


Sunday’s Nutrition


Brunch


Okay, so remember how I said I’m struggling with skipping meals on weekends?


Today was a struggle.


Specifically, I missed breakfast and had late brunch/lunch instead.


But I woke up not feeling great with this cold and really couldn’t stomach eating. You know how it is.


When I did feel like eating, I turned to my favourite traditional Sunday brunch: French toast.



It was cold and rainy and I didn’t feel like venturing out so I made it at home on multigrain bread (dare say it might have even been healthier than my favourite cafe one), though the cafe one definitely still tastes way nicer.


Mid-Afternoon Snack


This afternoon was a quiet movie day on the couch and movie snacks were certainly in order. I had a small handful of Greg’s Natural Cracker Company Magherita Pizza Crackers (so good) and a Fibre One Salted Caramel bar.

Dinner


For dinner tonight I went with something easy and we ordered in - like, I just can’t with cooking on weekends. Or any time, really.


It’s just not my thing. I mean, I can do it (quite well) and I do it because I have to, you know, survive, but … yeah. Not my favourite.



So we ordered Noodle Box and I got a small box of teriyaki chicken noodles. A small serve is filling enough for me, and filled with fresher, lighter favourites than other takeaway food.


Dessert


For dessert I grabbed a bag of Cob’s Lightly Sweet and Salty Popcorn and then called it a night.


Well, that wraps us up for today’s log, my beautiful Glam Babies.


I have to love you and leave you here because it’s late and my dinner’s almost ready.
